The horoscope is an astrological chart or diagram representing the positions of the Sun, Moon, planets, astrological aspects and sensitive angles at the time of an event, such as the moment of a person’s birth. The word horoscope is derived from Greek words meaning “hour” and “observer” (horoskopos, pl. horoskopoi). Other commonly used names for the horoscope in English include natal chart, astrological chart, astro-chart, celestial map, sky-map, star-chart, cosmogram, vitasphere, radical chart, radix, chart wheel, or simply chart.

Most newspapers and magazines carry predictive columns based on the horoscope, which purport to explain what is in store for people during the coming week, month or year. These are usually based on the position of the Sun in a particular sign of the zodiac at the time of a person’s birth, and the aspects (angles) formed between the planets in the sky.

The horoscope is used in astrology as a tool for divination, predicting the future, or making decisions about important life events. It is also used as a form of entertainment, often in the form of horoscope columns in newspapers and magazines.

The horoscope is based on the belief that the position of the planets and the stars at the time of a person’s birth has a bearing on that person’s character and future.
