What Star Sign is Little Richard?

Little Richard was born December 5th, 1932, making him a Sagittarius. Sagittarians are energetic, sociable, positive and honest, and are known for their signature optimism, always seeking to find the silver lining in every situation. Little Richard’s Sagittarian spirit and optimism allowed him to briefly revolutionize the music industry in the early 1950s with his high-energy rock and roll sound, becoming one of the original architects and builders of rock and roll.

Little Richard was born Richard Wayne Penniman in Macon, Georgia. In his childhood, Little Richard was a showman, playing the piano and singing in his church and in local talent shows. He idolized blues artists such as Sister Rosetta Tharpe and gospel singers like Mahalia Jackson. Such formative musical influences were deeply integrated into the soulful, blues-influenced rock and roll sound that came to define Little Richard’s music.

By 1951, Little Richard had started to record singles with small labels, though none of them had much success until he signed with Specialty Records in 1955 and released “Tutti Frutti.” The song is often cited as one of the earliest and most influential songs of the early rock and roll era, and was described by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum as “the anthem that catapulted Little Richard to stardom and helped launch the rock revolution, replacing the tame pop and big band sounds of the ’50s.” The success of “Tutti Frutti” enabled Little Richard to tour for the next few years, playing alongside the likes of Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, and Fats Domino. During this time, he was able to expand his sound and performance style, incorporating elements of gospel, blues and jazz as well as his trademark energy, over-the-top showmanship, complicated vocalizations and crowd participation.

Little Richard’s Sagittarian spirit was a key component of this theatrical showmanship and allowed him to captivate audiences with his wild persona. Being a true fire sign, Richard often referred to himself as “The Architect of Rock and Roll” and was never afraid to be over-the-top and theatrical when it came to performance. Likewise, Richard’s optimism and ceaseless ambition drove him to continually innovate and expand his sound, always striving to bring something new to the table. Such ambition enabled Little Richard to contribute greatly to the early rock and roll genre with his joyous and wildly entertaining performances, making him one of the most iconic figures in rock and roll history.

Given his Sagittarian spirit, it comes as no surprise that Little Richard was a true pioneer of the music industry, one of the architects of rock and roll and somebody who pushed music boundaries with over-the-top theatrical performances. Little Richard’s optimism and ambition certainly played a significant role in his success, but it is his persistent desire to experiment and innovate that truly made him a breakthrough artist of his time. Even today, Little Richard remains a legendary figure in music history, due in at least part to his zodiac sign and its accompanying combination of optimism and ambition.
