During Baryshnikov’s lifetime he many awards and accolades, including the FTD Male Dancer of the Year Award in 1976 and the Kennedy Center Honors in 1986. In 1975, he received the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award, and was also lauded with a Pulitzer Prize for Dance. After a curtain-call performance in 1989, Baryshnikov retired from traditional ballet.
