What is the Astrological Sign of Neil Armstrong?

Neil Armstrong, the famous American astronaut and the first person to set foot on the Moon, was born on August 5, 1930, making him a Leo.

The zodiac sign of Leo is a fire sign, meaning those who fall under this sign are often passionate, ambitious, and powerful individuals, who tend to be highly determined and an active presence in whatever situation they find themselves in.

Indeed, this certainly holds true for Neil Armstrong, who was born and raised in a small town in Ohio and whose determined attitude was evident from a young age, as he overcame obstacles and worked hard to achieve his dreams. Armstrong was inspired to pursue a career in flying from a young age, having become interested in aeronautical engineering after receiving a book entitled “The Future of Flight” from his father. He did exceedingly well academically and subsequently attended Purdue University, on a Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship, before being called up to serve in the Korean War.

It was Armstrong’s service for the U.S. navy that ultimately kickstarted his career as an astronaut; indeed, he applied to the National Advisory Committee that was responsible for the selection of test pilots for the space program, at the same time as completion of his service, and he was accepted into the program. He enrolled in the test pilot school at Edwards Air Force Base and progressed so rapidly in the astronaut program that, just three years after joining, he became the first civilian to piloted the X-15 rocket plane in space.

In 1968, Armstrong was chosen as the commander of the Apollo 11 mission, and it is widely known that Armstrong made history as the first human to walk on the moon, uttering the famous words “That’s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind”. Armstrong received a bevy of awards and honors in the months that followed, and in the years to come went on to lead a prestigious career in academia, teaching and lecturing at universities across the country before retiring in 1981.

His courage, ambition and determination pushed him to achieve greatness, and he has since become public inspiration for people around the world. Indeed, Armstrong embodies the tenacity and ambition which is typical of Leo’s, and his story serves as a classic example of the success that can be achieved with a fire sign attitude.
