What is Thomas Hobbes’s Zodiac Sign?

, with a maximum of 1200 words.

Thomas Hobbes was born on April 5th, 1588 and is an Aries. Aries, the first sign of the zodiac, is associated with passion, ambition, and unbridled courage. Those born under this sign are known for embodying its polarities in the extreme – quick temper and impulsivity versus long-term focus and determination. These traits aptly describe Hobbes’ approach to life and the pursuit of his ambitious goals.

Thomas Hobbes was born in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, England. He was the oldest of seven children born to a clergyman and his wife. His father left when he was only four years old and passed away soon after. Due to his tumultuous upbringing and lack of early education, Hobbes was largely educated at home. He was an avid reader and had a thirst for knowledge that led him to explore and discover many of his major contributions to philosophy.

Aristotle’s works, which he was exposed to early on, influenced Hobbes in his pursuit of natural science and mathematics. His study of Euclidean geometry led him to a greater understanding of the physical world and inspired him to create a system of harmonious laws for civil society. His careful observation of the workings of the physical world gave him insight into the workings of government and society, leading him to formulate his theories in his magnum opus, Leviathan.

In this book, Hobbes argued that human interactions originate from a basic self-interest, and without an authoritative government exercising absolute control, life would be nasty, brutish, and short. His theories strongly opposed the ideas of the then-dominant faith-based government organized around the ideology of the Church of England and earned him criticism and accusations of heresy.

In his book, Hobbes also argued that individuals have no inherent rights, but the state grants them through civil and moral laws. While this idea challenged people’s natural sense of justice, it was widely accepted and became the basis for British law until the 19th century. In addition to his theories on government, Hobbes wrote extensively on mathematics, optics, and natural science. He was also responsible for co-inventing the compound microscope with scientist Robert Hooke.

The bravery and passion which he embodied during his life was the direct effect of his Aries influence, allowing him to meet every challenge head-on and become a major voice in his era.
